Harvest Hours, NEW Sample Boxes & Instructions

The grapes are coming, the grapes are coming!

With the filling of bins and arrival of fruit, harvest is here and the days
are getting busier for all of us.  We at Wine Wise Idaho are geared up for
fall and are ready to process your grape and wine samples and answer any
enological questions you may have this season. Or, if you just want to take
a break to chat, please stop on by to say hi.  Our harvest hours are Monday
  through Saturday, 8am-4pm.

Given that time flies so fast and scheduling harvest sample pick-up can
often be the last thing that's on the agenda, we've set up 3 drop boxes for
sample submission.  One box is located at Sawtooth winery in Nampa, one at
Koenig Vineyards production winery in Caldwell, and the last outside of the
Wine Wise Office in Boise (photos and specific drop box location details are
  listed below).

Sample pick up will be at 10am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting
on Tuesday, October 4th and continuing through the end of harvest.   You can
access these boxes on your schedule although we suggest dropping samples off
after 3pm on the afternoon of the day before pickup to preserve sample
chemistry.   As always, we guarantee results 24 hours from sample pick-up or
  earlier as sample loads permit.

 *Drop box information: *

The drop boxes are bright orange, insulated boxes that are emblazoned with
the words "Sample box" and the Wine Wise logo. Each is secured to the
premises and a small combination lock secures the samples.  The code for all

 of the boxes is *208*.

*Instructions for Juice, Grape, and Wine Sample Drop-off*

  1.               Ensure samples are accurately marked with winery and sample
information using the provided WineWise labels.

  2.               Put samples with secured lids in a Ziploc bag and if
desired, inside a paper bag taped shut for privacy.

  3.               Place sample package in drop box with ice package for
  additional cooling if needed.

4.               Samples will be picked up at 10am on Tuesdays, Thursdays
and Saturdays.  Results guaranteed within 24 hours of pick-up time.

  5.               Contact Kat 206.331.8191 or Shauna 208.863.1634 with
questions, special instructions or to request additional supplies.

Sulfur Addition and Management

This will be a "hands on" Seminar; optional sample sanitation kits will be available for purchase from the Wine Commission for $15.00.  Come prepared to have some fun!

Ethanol Testing:

The new alcohol testing kit is available through Randox Laboratories via spectrophotometry.  At this time, Wine Wise is unable to justify the cost/test of testing ethanols.  When Randox reassess their total cost of each kit, Wine Wise may be able to offer this test in the future.
For the time being, testing ethanol from another lab is recommended.

Hope to see you soon at the Seminar April 27th!  Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.  Thank you for your support.

Cheers!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Thank you, winemakers, for the increased business this past crush.  We are still at it, but things are starting to taper off.  I feel very blessed to work with such talented, hard-working, and amazing winemakers.  The quality of Idaho Wines is very competitive with
other areas, as shown by the numerous awards given to Idaho Wineries this year!

Wine Wise winter hours are by appointment as of Friday, December 17.  Please give me a call in advance if you need lab analysis at 208 863-1634.

Thank you again for a successful year, and all the best in 2011!

Updates and Savor Idaho

Hello, everyone!

After a wonderful trip to Italy celebrating 38 years of marriage (and a long recovery from the upper respiratory crud that seems to accompany long travels,) I want to thank our customers and welcome our new accounts for a busy April and May!  As we all gear up for the new season, please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions regarding your wine.

My consultant, Angie Riff, is a local winemaker with degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry, and ran the lab for a large 100,000+ case winery in Alexander Valley, California for two years before working with Helen Turley of Marcassin in Sonoma County to learn her winemaking skills.  Questions regarding fermentations, residual sugars, sulfurs, etc., are answered in a timely manner, and I look forward to helping you keep your wine in top notch condition through monthly monitoring.

Please don't forget "Savor Idaho" on June 13, 2010 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at the Botanical Gardens here in Boise.  Visit savoridaho.org for more information.  Moya Shatz and Melissa Witt from the Idaho Grape Growers and Wine Producers Commission work very hard on this event.  Get your limited tickets now!

Thanks again for your support of Wine Wise!  See you soon.

     Caio!  Shauna
